 New Series Alert!

In lieu of the traditional #wcw, we are starting #wellnesscrushwednesday to highlight our favorite wellness babes trailblazing in personhood and business.

This week we are highlighting theatre creative, producer and director Dana Graham (@simply_dnicole) ! If you’ve been following us for a while, then you might have read our creative profile featuring Dana. In the interview she hinted at a new project on the horizon. Well chile, it is here and it is great!

In May, Dana launched Scripted in Black, a performative reading series of works from WOC writers and playwrights based in Dayton, Oh. Scripted in Black isn’t your typical live reading. Utilizing her collegiate and post grad experience as an actress and director, Dana produces essentially short plays from the written work. Scripted in Black also works to highlight WOC writers by having the writers perform their works.

I’ve been able to attend two live readings and both have left me in tears and several day long introspective moods. The last reading, that closed out the Spring/Summer season, was centered around auntie Audre Lorde’s famous words “Caring for myself is not self-indulgence, it is self-preservation, and that is an act of political warfare.” Words we LIVE by here at Beyond the Clouds.

We are inspired by Dana for being a possibility model of what black and women of color in theater can look like.
